Signage that cries Wolf!

On encountering a speed limit in open countryside for the first time many motorists will slow down in case of a hazard ahead.

After a while those who know the road realise there’s nothing ahead nor around the next bend, so begin to travel as though the limit is there for no apparent reason.
They’re generally travelling expeditiously and safely while still having regard for the surroundings.
But how will they react to the next hazard or warning ahead?
Will they treat all subsequent warning signs with contempt?

Risk factors increase, not only there but further along the route.

It doesn’t only apply to speed limits. It can be almost anywhere; village signs where there is no village; over extension of double white lines; over use of dangerous bend chevrons.
