Roads
Roads have been a part of daily life for many thousands of years. When we use roads, whether on foot, horse, cycle, motorbike, car or truck we assess all manner of conditions around us. Not only do we look at natural features, but we also take account of road signs, road layout and the behaviour of other road users.
There is a risk in whatever we do. Small changes in the factors around us can increase or reduce that risk.
Compared to other risks, road accidents are low. The chance of us being involved is extremely low. We can however strive to reduce that chance. But if we don’t consider all the relevant factors we can easily increase risk.
We shouldn’t forget that the purpose of a road is to provide safe expeditous movement from one place to the next, while at the same time considering the amenity of the area through which the road passes.
